GERTIE IHLENFELDT Her love for painting started in school. She completed her course in graphic design at the Johannesburg School of Art in 1961 and started a career in that field. In 1970 she started a free-lance career illustrating calendars with birds and flower paintings. She also paints landscapes and still-life in oil and watercolour. She held many exhibitions and sold many watercolours. In 1984 she moved to Vryheid where two of her paintings were selected for the permanent collection at the Natal Art Gallery. She returned to Johannesburg and started a freelance career a fiction illustrator for some Afrikaans magazines. At present time she paints full time and does also illustrations for AD companies and book publishers.
