DENZIL HERRING He was born in 1940. His need to paint started from a young age. He joined the SA Navy Permanent Force in 1957. As soon as he completed his navy training in 1960 he attended his studies at the American Academy of design and Pattern making, and became lead designer for Moretex Fashions at the age of 24yrs. During this time he begun to paint seriously therefore he had to stop his job as a designer. He is best known for his still life paintings, he studied the old masters technique, and in particular a method called cyraskura, which is the glaze and scumble technique. He is a successful artist and his paintings hang in many prominent places such as the American Embassy, the Foschini House, the Municipal building board rooms, the Angle-American and hundreds of private homes in SA and abroad.
