GABRIEL CORNELIS DE JONGH

Born in 1913, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Died 11th March  2004 in SA.  

He studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in London, woodcarving and photolithography in Cape Town. He also studied under his father Tinus de Jongh.

He painted landscapes, still life, seascapes, wildlife, religious subjects and paintings inspired by classical music. Gabriel works in oil, watercolour, ink and pencil. He was a graphic artist producing etchings.

He was a ware artist depicting scenes in France, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. He travelled South America and Europe.

He participated in numerous group exhibitions in South Africa, his first solo exhibition was in 1946 by Maskew Miller Gallery in Cape Town.  He is represented in the Ann Bryant Gallery, East London; in the National Museum, Bloemfontein; in the University of Cape Town and University of Stellenbosch.
